Fox Control & Removal
There are two types of foxes in Pennsylvania, the commonly found Red fox and the more rare Gray fox. Red foxes are orange-red with black legs, a white tipped tail and are commonly found in open lots and farmland. Gray foxes have gray coats, a black-tipped tail and prefer forests and the banks of rivers or streams. Foxes readily adapt to suitable urban environments where food and shelter are available.
Denning Fox Repellents
Foxes are active throughout the day, but spend most of their time hunting prey at dawn or dusk. Its well known that foxes are aggressive, opportunistic feeders that prefer small animals like rabbits, rodents and poultry, but foxes will also eat fruit, insects and eggs. In nature, foxes den in burrows which are created from rock piles, tree hollows and brush piles. In urban settings, foxes will den under houses, sheds, hot tubs, decks, patios and other structures. Breeding season lasts from March through April.
After a short gestation period, mother foxes will typically have 3-5 pups. Foxes will aggressively attack cats, dogs and even humans that are perceived as threats to their den or young. It is important to catch foxes early in the denning stage and encourage them to leave your property. Our humane, natural fox repellent sprays encourage the denning mother fox to relocate with her cubs.
Foxes Spread Disease & Parasites
Fleas, ticks and other parasites are commonly spread by foxes to domestic pets and their owners. In the event your pets have contracted fleas or ticks, we have treatments that will keep your family and pets safe.
Mange is also common with foxes. This debilitating disease is caused by parasitic mites and results in patchy or complete hair loss. Mange causes intense irritation of the skin causing some foxes to chew off their own tails trying to relieve the itching.
Advanced stages of mange will make foxes appear weak and come in close proximity to pets and people while scavenging for food. Mange is transmitted to dogs by environmental contact through dens and other areas the fox spends its time.
Foxes have been known to carry rabies. Contact your local animal control agency, police department or health department if you see a fox showing these signs:
- Partial paralysis or the inability to use their limbs well
- Circling or staggering as if drunk
- Self-mutilation
- Acting aggressively for no reason
- Acting unnaturally tame
If Bitten By A Fox
Thoroughly wash the bite site with soap and water. Seek immediate medical attention. Prompt medical care will prevent a rabies infection. Be sure to report the bite to your local animal control agency, police department, or health department.
